February Sales Figures

Buoyancy in the hospitality sector, according to recent figures from Catton Hospitality.

According to an analysis of more than 100 organisations that use S4labour software, operators bounced back from the January blues to see strong sales figures in February 2019 compared with like for like figures from February 2018. 

 

Overall, sites achieved an encouraging 2.5% increase in like for like sales on February the previous year. Like recent months, it was food-focused businesses who saw the greatest increases. Drink sales in food-focused pubs delivered an uplift of 7.6%, accounting for the greatest proportion of growth within the analysis. Strong drink sales were not at the sacrifice of revenue from food, where sales also grew by 2.4%. 

 

There were also modest increases in sales performances from drink focused business. Drink sales in wet-let business grew by 1.3%. However they were slightly hindered by fall in food sales. Overall, sales in drink focused business were up by just short of 1% on last year.  

January Sales Figures

According to an analysis of more than 100 organisations that use S4Labour software, operators faced challenging condition during the month of January. Against the back drop of Dry January, Blue Monday and Veganuary, there was a slight 0.9% drop in like-for-likes sales. Following on from a strong Christmas period, wet-led venues bore the brunt of the fall, with falls in drink sales of 2.8% and a slight drop of 1.8% in food sales.

 

Food-focused businesses fared better, where the analysis shows year on year sales grew by 1.0%, made up predominantly by a 1.3% uplift in food sales and aided by a 0.6% increase in drink sales.

 

There were real gains to be had on New Years Day this year, where operators saw an overall 5.7% increase in sales over the same day the previous year. This figure was boosted by particularly strong food sales in both drink and food focused business.

Impressive December Sales for S4Labour Customers

December was another excellent month for operators. Following strong November sales, December like-for-likes were up 4.5%, according to an analysis of more than 100 organisations that use S4Labour software. Wet-led venues enjoyed a 3.9% boost in sales, thanks to a 6.5% increase in food sales. Meanwhile, food-focused businesses were the biggest winners overall with a 4.8% uplift, driven by a 5.5% rise in drink sales. Over the key December trading days (24-26th and 31st) sales were up 5.4% demonstrating a successful Christmas period. 

 

Strong Growth in November Sales for S4Labour Customers

November was an excellent month for hospitality, as like-for-like sales were up by 4.7% compared with 2017 levels- according to a study of over 100 hospitality organisations that use S4Labour scheduling, HR and Payroll software. Drink sales were the main driver behind the strong results; the hospitality industry saw a 6.5% increase on 2017’s levels, with food sales up 1.5%. Despite wet-led businesses experiencing a 0.8% dip in food sales, they were the biggest winners overall, enjoying a 4.8% boost in sales compared to last year. Dry-led sites were not far behind, with an average 4.6% rise. Operators will be cheered by the strong numbers as they head into the festive period.

Dip in October Sales for UK Hospitality

Recent growth in UK hospitality revenues has ceased as October brought a 1% dip in average sales, according to our latest research. Analysis of over 100 organisations that use S4Labour software found the decline was driven by lower food sales, with operators typically seeing a 2% fall. Following a summer of high spending, its likely consumers are now cutting back.

Although many will be cheered by this week’s business rates adjustment announcements, wet-led operators seem to be facing a tougher autumn with like for like food revenues down by 3.7%. Dry-led businesses fared much better and saw an average 0.5% increase in sales, thanks to drink sales rising by 3%. The overall dip in sales trails a strong summer and September for operators, who may anticipate quieter trading in the lead up to the festive period.

Food sales were the driving force behind this rise as these operators saw an average 3.5% increase across their sites. Wet-led businesses typically faced a leaner start to autumn with an average 2.7% fall in drink sales, partially mitigated from a 1.7% rise in their food revenues. Meanwhile, food-focused businesses enjoyed a 3.7% growth in drink sales. This follows a strong summer of revenues for operators, who will be hopeful it continues into the autumn in the lead up to the busy Christmas period.
